Only docking a star because of the wait but that was to be expected on a Sunday! Suki was so sweet to my 2 year old son while cutting his hair. She did a great job of distracting him with a sucker, washable tattoo and lots of praise. I really appreciated her kindness and the hair cut was very nice. She even gave him a goody bag with candy and little toys at the end. Thank you Suki, we will be back!

Very unfortunate how this all went down, but because this salon cannot be professional, this is where we are.
First off, I can't complain about the haircuts, which explains why I kept going back, even after the initial incident. So just if you were wondering about the quality, it's not bad, but it's not the best. I have been coming here for a couple months and up until about a month ago, I have had no issues.
Anyways, here's the deal.
If you scroll down the reviews you will see a review from a woman named Emily (Hans B) who had a bad experience at this salon. (I suggest you read it first, I don't feel like re-writing what happened)
I am the husband, and the entire story is true and went down exactly how she described it. However, I did not have an issue with the blood (it's a blood blister which I have had my whole life, it gets nicked all the time and I've gotten used to it) BUT, the lack of urgency that it took Suki to clean it up was a bit on the slow side (she also didn't clean her tools and continued with the service whilst blood was running down my face) AND it is also a fact that it is a blood and sanitation violation that can get your salon shut down or the person stripped of their license a/o fined.
So my wife wrote the review, and apparently it made some waves.
I went back two weeks later. And the hair stylist that cut my wife's hair came and sat next to me. She started talking to me about how my wife's post made the shop look bad and to ask if I could tell her to take it down. I said I would talk to her but there was no guarantees because I'm not a controlling husband and I feel that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I also was frustrated because they never once contacted her, just me, about her complaint (shady). So after the chat she cut my hair, I had no complaints, so I paid and left.
Two weeks go by and I go in again for my bi-weekly hair cut. This time, I am seen by a different woman, my hair gets cut and I start towards the register to pay. I am met there by the stylist who again starts talking about my wife's review and how she pressured her colleague to cut my wife's hair even with her booked schedule and to see if I could again talk to my wife about taking
down the review. She then told me my hair cut was free of charge to make up for my wife's hair cut. Total bribery, but they wouldn't take my money even when I insisted to pay for it.
The next part I saw coming but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Thinking that people would just grow up, fix an obvious problem, and move on.
My wife never took down the review, so today when I went in I was told that they didn't feel comfortable cutting my hair while the yelp review was still up. But not until I had been sitting in the shop for 10 minutes while my wife (who dropped me off) was at Costco.
In all honesty, it's a business's right to deny service to anyone, I understand this. But the way you do it really shows who you are as a shop. I've never had this experience before, and I never thought I would. But it goes to show that just because you're one of the better places in town to get a haircut, that people don't have to just deal with clear health violations.
I'm not going to tell you not to go here, this was just my experience. Just know that when this shop makes a mistake, it's your fault, not theirs.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Savnene F.Fairbanks, AK017Oct 7, 2019

It has been so difficult trying to find someone to do a razor fade or straight razor shave in this town. Everyone claims they are a "barber," but this one is the real deal. Best shave I've ever received and I really liked the hair wash. The waitlist made it super simple to get a haircut even though it was a 4 hour wait on Sunday. Once I got my text, I came in and was immediately seated in a barber's chair. This is my new spot. Truly a hidden gem in this town.

I recently got a haircut & highlights by Lisa at Suki's Salon. She did an amazing job!! I've had so many compliments on my hair since then! I was pretty nervous about getting highlights, since I'd been going with my natural darker blonde for 7 years, but Lisa knew just what I needed :)
She also gave me a little shoulder/neck massage at the end, which felt SO good! I highly recommend Lisa!!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Collins B.Fairbanks, AK5262Dec 24, 2019
I had not had a haircut in over two years, it was time. I tried Suki's, really liked my haircut, and have been back twice more in the last four months. It isn't cheap, but I think the price is commensurate with the quality. I have had the beard trim each time, and they have done a solid job on that as well. The online waitlist feature is a nice touch.

Ive been going for 3 years. when it comes to getting a cut, i'm a very picky person. majority of the time, i tend not to like it whenever i cut my hair but ever since that day that someone recommended me this place, i've been pleased and happy every time i get a haircut here. all the staff are friendly and very good of what they do. i'll miss this place and the people who runs it. Thank you for the awesome haircuts.

I brought my 6 year old and my 3 year old in for haircuts. I decided to use Suki's as it had the most reviews. Worst haircut my oldest son has EVER had, h down. When I asked her to even out the places she had literally shaved crooked in my sons head she replied with "that will be $5 more for a straight razor." Not to mention she didn't actually cut or even trim the top of his head, she used thinning shears. Now his hard part looks like a lightning bolt and the top is so many different lengths that it's going to have to be re-cut so short it will look nothing like his normal hairdo. She never spoke to my son once, not one word. She moved his head around like she was moving a mannequin. As for my 3 year old, he never hit her chair. We paid for a terrible $25 haircut and left never to return. If you have any other choice on a barber, go there. Avoid Suki's, please.
Update:
Thank you for the response but it clearly paints an untrue picture of our visit to your salon.
There was no yelling at any point. In fact, my 3 year old and I sat watching my phone in the corner under the hair dryers until it was his turn. I understand trying to post a response that would help sway people reading my review but lying is unbecoming. My demeanor was calm and collected throughout our sad and wasteful visit. It wasn't until the hairstylist informed me that she had finished his haircut that I requested that she fix the hard crooked line and actually take a pair of shears to the top. There was never a request for a second hard part. My son has received the same haircut for 4 years and the line had long been established in the correct spot. Which I had informed the stylist of prior to her initiating his haircut. Unfortunately, the stylist must have had an off day and was unable to keep a steady hand. The line was crooked and I simply asked if she could even it out. Why would I have ever asked for a second line? She was as calm as I when she responded with the "$5 more" comment. I then requested that she just use the clippers to straighten it out. At this point she attempted to remedy a poor unskilled haircut with a toy as my son clearly did not like what she had done. I realized at this moment I was going to have to go to another salon and have it fixed by a stylist that was more interested in quality rather than quantity. Which I immediately did upon leaving. I calmly paid for the haircut, which I still regret, and I loaded my boys up. You are correct, the salon had quite a few men in the salon, most of which in their military uniforms. Had I acted as rude and uncooperative as you state, I would hope that someone would have spoken up to correct my poor manners but as we both know that was absolutely not the case. My review is not a personal attack and nothing has been taken out on anyone at Suki's. My photographs speak for themselves and unfortunately for your stylist's skill level. I understand that having someone showcase a subpar skill set for stylist would be uncomfortable.
Finally, I understand that stylists can also have a bad day. I also hope this was just an off day and you decided to take it out on us as you seemed visibly uninterested when we walked in. Thank you for getting us seated in a timely manner as we followed the salon request to sign-in prior to arrival.
Also, thank you for the sticky hand toy. It was the highlight of our visit to your establishment.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

First and foremost we would like to apologize that your experience wasn't great. Although we strive for the greatest haircuts, sometime they miss that mark and are only good haircuts. However, we will continue to strive to offer the best service to Fairbanks as we have for the past 15 years.
Your experience is yours, but there are two main points that I would like to correct on what occured:
1. The Not Talking: The stylists stayed calm, quiet, and professional despite the constant yelling and berating by you to allow for a more pleasant haircut for your son and not to scare him. Sadly this meant that there was no room for much dialogue between the stylist and your son.
2. The Hard Part: As seen in the photo you posted, the crooked and curved hard part is the previous hard part done somewhere else that you no longer wanted. She confirmed with you twice and tried to discourage you from placing another secondary straight line next to it as you would have the residual line and need to regrow the hair next to it. To appease you, she went very light on the part and didn't have it carved in with a straight razor. In this case, we wish our stylist had stayed firm on declining to add the hard part, as you have now uploaded a photo and unfairly made it seem like it was the stylist's mistake.
Finally we get that clients can also have a bad day. We hope this was just a bad day you had and decided to take out on us, as you seemed visibly upset as you initially walked in. We did have a long wait time that day of 2 hours plus BUT since you added your son's name to our waitlist online, you waited all of maybe 10 minutes in our salon before he was seated for his haircut.
We are happy we were at least able to bring a smile to your son's face with the toys he received along with the candy. We wish your family the best and hope you are able to find a salon or barbershop that suits you.Aug 28, 2019Previous reviewI brought my 6 year old and my 3 year old in for haircuts. Did my 3 boys hair, exactly how we wanted. And then did my husband's hair, all turned out great!
