Dr Lee is fun and a fantastic dentist. Staff is very friendly. He knows his stuff. My bottom teeth are very hard to get dead. After 30 years my wonderful dentist retired and I had a year I went to diffident dentists and it was a nightmare getting my teeth dead until I found Dr. Lee. He just knows his stuff like my old dentist!

Unfortunately all of the comments regarding dishonesty with gum depth and overcharging is indeed true. Sunrise Dental gave me 3mm, 4mm, 5mm for my gum depth the 5mm would require a deep cleaning which costs more money this occurred during every exam. I went to a more reputable dental office and my gum depth was 1mm, 2mm and one 3mm which requires a regular cleaning every six months. Sunrise Dental offers free teeth whitening for a reason to entice the public but it simply isn't a good deal when you're being overcharged and lied to.

1st, I must advise that I LOVE going to the dentist and enjoy the mouth pain involved with basic cleanings etc. (weird I know lol). Anywho, this place deserves 1 star only because the front staff was nice. I do not recommend this dental clinic at all. I read the reviews but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, surely they can't be that bad? My husband and I went in for a basic check-up/cleaning. My appointment was first and when they measured my gums, it was super painful (even for me!) and the dentist (Dr. Lee) kept saying 4's and 3's. I was bleeding a lot and they said it was because my gums aren't good. Okay....never heard that before, but what do I know right?
Then when the hygienist came to clean my teeth, she just started cleaning, without asking if there are any sensitive areas. She was super rough and I felt like I was being manhandled. The worst part...I was bleeding and slobbering and I can taste it all going to the back of my throat. I had to ask her MYSELF to get a rinse and to use the suction! Once she was done, the dentist came back in and told me ALL the work I needed to have done. I had about 8 cavities, WTF?! Have I really not been taking care of my teeth or something? I also needed a root canal (knew I needed a Crown, but a root canal? dang it!) and some of my filings needed to be redone (from metal to tooth colored, which is really cosmetic but fine).
At first, I was sorta believing him but then he mentioned something that made me take a huge step back. I have a fluoride stain on my front tooth. I have had it since I was 8 years old. He stated that it was "a cavity in nature" and that needed to be taken care of too. The last time a dentist mentioned my stain was when it first appeared when I was 8! Everyone else either never brings it up or says, "Oh it's just because of fluoride, it's fine." Getting any work done on it is really just cosmetic. That's when I told him that I will need to think about it and would like an estimate of all the work.
The Front Desk ladies were all very nice and gave me my estimate, which was around $1,100, after my insurance! I made an appointment for later date (cause I was still in denial of the "wonderful" service I just received, I suppose) and then waited for my husband to be done with his check-up/cleaning. He was out in less than 30 mins, which was weird. We left and he told me he set up an appointment for a later date as well.....to do his cleaning....wait what?! Both our appointments were for check-ups/cleaning but I guess the hygienist wanted to leave early or something and so they just rescheduled him....NOPE. I called and cancelled both our appointments. I got THE WORST sore throat afterwards, which I'm sure was due to all that blood w/ bacteria just having a good all time going down my throat.
We went to a different dentist this past weekend, didn't tell him about what we were told at Sunrise Dental, and guess what?! I have NO CAVITIES! NONE! I asked the dentist if he was sure and he said "Yup, you have groves on your molars that cavities like, so we'll just need to keep an eye on them, but your teeth are all good and cavity free". My gums are great and I only had around two 3's and the rest were 2's! He advised that I did need a crown for my molar, no root canal needed at this point and that was it. WOW! I got my metal filings changed to to tooth colored ones and the crown for my molar, All the work cost me less than half the amount of what Sunrise Dental was going to charge me! I got all the work done same day and my husband actually decided to get a deep cleaning instead because it was such a difference from Sunrise Dental, no pain and it didn't feel like we we're just a number. This is what I expect when I go to the dentist. Faith Restored!
I really did try to give Sunrise Dental the benefit of the doubt, but in this case, the negative Yelp reviews are all justified. Please do yourself a favor and look for a different dental clinic. The prices here may seem cheaper than most but in the end they try to do things that are just not needed and end up costing you way more. I'm not sure if it's because this is a chain dental office, but MY God can I tell the difference between a chain and mom/pop dental clinic.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Liz C.Puyallup, WA071Oct 5, 2016
Doctors' opinions may vary, but I believe Sunrise Dental doctor and staff actually lied about what treatment I needed. So I got a second opinion. I went to another dentist for an exam less than 24 hours after my exam at Sunrise Dental and the differences were stark.
Gum Depth measurements: 3mm or less is good. More than 3mm is sign of possible gum disease. At Sunrise, the hygienist read my gum depths as almost all 4s, 5s and even a 6. Very few 3s. At the other place (I didn't tell them the details of my experience at Sunrise because I didn't want to influence them) their hygienist read almost all 3s, a few 4s, and one 5. Even a few 2s!
SUNRISE ADDED +1mm TO ALL MY GUM DEPTH MEASUREMENTS. And that was only the beginning of the discrepancies.
Sunrise Dental told me I needed a "deep cleaning" (which requires local anesthesia and two visits to complete) as well as a regular cleaning every 4 months after that. Here's the thing...
There are no treatment rooms, just a large open medical bay with chairs separated by curtains and cabinets, so I could hear every other patient and their treatment recommendations. I heard the EXACT SAME SALES PITCH delivered by 3 different people in the exact same way. It was a script they'd all been trained on. I find it very hard to believe that every patient in the bay needed a deep cleaning and followup cleaning 3x per year.
So, did the second dentist concur? Nope. The dentist who gave me a second opinion (having no idea what Sunrise recommended) told me that I only had a few teeth that required anything more advanced than a basic cleaning. For those teeth, he suggested a limited scaling, and a basic cleaning for the rest. A fraction of the price and all done in one visit.
Finally, the doctor at Sunrise Dental recommended I consider surgery for some tissue pockets behind my last molars. Those pockets have been there for almost half my life and aren't giving me any problems. Now surgery is being tossed around? That was when I knew something was wrong.
When I got my second opinion, we finished up and he hadn't mentioned any other concerns. So, I took a chance and asked "Do you see anything in there that might need surgery?" He stared at me, very confused, and asked why I thought I needed surgery. That's when I told him about the doctor's recommendation at Sunrise Dental. He was shocked.
Sunrise Dental is an office of salespeople, not medical professionals. Salespeople cannot comply with the Hippocratic Oath. Dentists have to take their own version of the Oath, and it addresses considering the economic stability of the patient as a part of "do no harm." They are in direct conflict with that oath when pushing unnecessary treatments on patients in order to meet sales goals.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Warning: This place is NOT the place to get your dental work done. The doctors are money hungry and will come up with every reason why you need the deep cleaning, filling, crown or root canal etc. The more work they do on you, the more money they make so you can imagine what they see when you walk in their office. They don't see a person, they see $$$.
Ask your friends to introduce u to a honest family dentist not a corporate chain like Sunrise Dental. They are all about business= money, and could care less about what you really need. Seriously. Take my advice and at least get a second opinion if you don't believe me.
Run from this place.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Am B.Steilacoom, WA0163Jan 5, 2020
I have always had a great experience here! Dr. Rex is so funny and polite. He was the first Dr. I was seeing but had to reschedule an appointment and got Dr. Choy who was so sweet and her interaction with her assistant you could tell she really listens to everyone. My whole family will be heading to this office.

If you need your teeth done, I would go here. they are so friendly, really hi-tech. Never had a a dentist be so thorough with my teeth before. One down side is they are so new that not every part of the building is done. They have all the important stuff up and running up there are a few rooms with nothing in them, wires still of the socket (properly secured I may add), but they are still trying to get everything up and going. But all in all great time. I have a great smile now. Oh and ask them about their free sonic care tooth brush too , and free life time whitening.
