Q:
If I go about 30/45 min before you close can I still get my nails done?
A:
Thank you for inquiring. It all depends on how busy we are. Sometimes we have many people waiting in line we may have to tell you to come back the next day. Please call ahead before you come. We are looking forward to seeing you soon.

Is their website no longer working? I usually use it to book my waxing and pedicure appointments on it but am unable to get the site to load whenever I've tried this past week. I get an error message instead...

Recently visited Sunshine nails after my regular nail tech was on leave and I was in need of a retouch on my SNS dip nails. I really appreciated the ability to book my appointment online and choose a technician. It was my first time visiting the shop, so someone did call to confirm, however I was lucky enough to snag a same day appointment at 5:15.
I arrived around 5:09 pm and the receptionist told me the wait would be about 10 minutes and to go wash my hands (I do appreciate requiring clients to wash their hands!). In reality, my technician didn't get to me until after 6 pm as he was just starting a complicated design on another client. They did have someone come over and start the removal of my current dip (soak and file), so at the very least I was receiving some sort of service.
Tony did an excellent job on my ombre nails, something I had been wanting to try for a while. So if this is based on nails alone, I'd give them 4 stars. When I got home I still had to do some additional shaping but they came out how I wanted them. The customer service however was sub par at best. Tony didn't really take the time to even speak to me before, during or after the appointment outside of ringing me up. As a first time client I would've appreciated some sort of communication, even if just a "thanks for waiting" since he didn't get to me until almost an hour after my scheduled time. So customer service definitely is closer to a 3.
Also, online dip ombre nails are listed as $65 but they charged me $70 with no explanation. I don't appreciate those sorts of business practices. So, minus 1 star for the price difference, and an additional star for the lack of customer service. However, again, my nails did come out nice so that ultimately is what's important! I'd consider visiting again as a back up place!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nature' F.Washington, DC99189Jul 18, 2023
I had an appointment with Cierra. When I arrived, I was seated right away. The conversation was great. The overall vibe in the salon was very upbeat, which I appreciated. I was also grateful that my design was well received. I have already made a second appointment for my toes.
My only regret is that Cierra, unfortunately, will be leaving Sunshine due to the proximity between her job and her home. She will be missedHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 12108193Sep 9, 2022
This was my first time going here. The salon staff was nice. I had an appointment and was seen very quickly after arriving for my pedicure. I didn't catch the lady name who did my pedicure but she was very detailed with the polish.
Lily did my nails and she did a great job. I showed her the design and she nailed it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1025816Aug 23, 2023
I love this place. Not only are my nails great every time, but the music and atmosphere are great as well. I will admit I don't like the parking at all, and the pedicure I had wasn't great. I was going to Cierra and she always did a great job, she's now left and I went to Amy. I was nervous, but Amy actually did a great job as well!

Literally my favorite salon in this area. I go to Sue for my pedicures and she always takes her time and is very personable. When I first started coming I had a few different people do my nails and they all do great but I have fallen in love with Vicky and I won't be going to anyone else going forward. If you bring a picture she can replicate it and if you want a freestyle design she's also able to do great with that as well. I'm so happy I finally found a nail home in Alexandria and won't have to drive to Woodbridge anymore.

I followed my nail tech of many years here.... and they do not disappoint!
My nail tech is "Jay", she is a beast at recreating anything you show her! Jay also can freestyle which always is amazing...I get Gel X nails every 3 weeks and it lastsssss. Jay's work is top tier!
I use "Hanna & Liz" for my pedicures. Both techs take their time with you and you will leave with well groomed feet! My feet are done for a full month, and that's big for me!
The atmosphere is very calm/relaxing, and the music is always on point!
Check them out!!Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dee Dee S.Arlington, VA0152Dec 5, 2023
I'm disgusted by the service, if that's what you call it that I received today. My tech was John and I was told he is 1 of the acrylic structure specialist, since I don't use press tip. Here's a list of all the red flags: i have been getting my nails done for YEARS and I pay big bucks (my nail tech on maternity leave)
1 I sat in the chair with no conversation of length or shape change, or get an idea what I want.
2. When he drilled my nails he didn't drill/file the tan acrylic. He stated it would be considered full set. Which was weird
3. He Didn't use no tools such as cuticle cuter to cut my cuticles or the edges.
4. He applied same color as previously came in with. Come on, clearly there fall colors were in Dec.
5. horrible and sloppy job buffing and filling the nails. You know you got a good file when you can scratch your back and feels good. Nope nails felt dull like they been on for months
6 he really tried to put on a top clear coat with the same color I came in with. I stopped him and asked him what was he doing. He state oh I thought you said you wanted the same color.....NO SIR its Christmas so I need Christmas colors.
All in all this appointment was rushed and waste of my time exactly 1 hour and money. When I get my nails done its usually for 2 to 3 hours weather it's full set or refill. Im never ever coming here again. If you want quick straight out nail school, this your place.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - Mercedes B.VA, VA08Feb 26, 2024
I believe I found my nail care home. My first visit was awesome. I came to get a full set acrylic with design and I was seen right away within five minutes of me being a walk-in by Jacqueline. She got straight to work and cared for my nails very gently and the design I showed her she did just that. The environment Was very clean and upbeat. I will definitely be returning.

Went here to get my nails done because of another shop not doing a good job. I had a fill in and 2 nails replaced also a pedicure. My boyfriend got a clear manicure and pedicure. Price was a couple dollars cheaper than the place i went to before. Great experience. Very busy but they have numerous people working there so that is no issue. I love the over all experience here and i will be back.
I will recommend this shopHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Again, I highly suggest making an appointment which seems easier to do through Instagram.
The facility is now how it was pre-covid- no more dividers between pedicure and nail stations. I believe masks are still required. Also, a woman who cleans the facility still wipes everything down with an alcohol based cleaner when clients are finished being serviced.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 2, 2021Previous reviewVisited the salon again- this time with an appointment.
Strongly recommend an appointment to avoid time delays. Locating parking can also be a struggle (especially on weekends) due to the small parking lot. Yet, parking is free.
Customer service is still lacking here. I visited the website before calling to set my appointment with Jay and I could not find the calendar to make an appointment so I called. I requested to be seen by Jay for a regular acrylic fill and was told me she was booked. I asked if anyone else was available to do an acrylic fill and the receptionist stated that everyone was booked and there would only be an opening if someone canceled. I stated that I would call back at another time, but then I immediately was able to find their booking calendar from the link on Instagram and Krystina was available at a few different times. Why did the receptionist tell me no one was available when someone was?Jun 14, 2021Previous reviewUpdating my review as the world is slowly opening back up.
Visited the salon twice or maybe three times since my last review. There are now dividers between each nail station, still dividers between the pedicure stations, and a woman wipes everything down non-stop. I even noticed the woman clean each individual nail polish on the wall!
The t.v is usually kept on a cooking or fashion show on mute while music is playing in the salon.
I highly recommend making an appointment. Vicky, the salon owner, has increased clientele and services offered so you may be turned around as a walk-in.
That brings me to my next topic... I was recently a walk-in and thought if I went as soon as they opened I would be good. The salon opened at 8:30 am and I was there by 8:45, but they were already busy. I was immediately given a pedicure but had to wait at least 30 mins for acrylics and that was only because someone didn't show for an appointment. I didn't like that I was asked to sit in Vicky's chair, then Vicky asked what I wanted only to turn me over to two different people. I was explaining to Vicky that I surprised to get her as walk-in and she just smiled. She then asked her 'assistant' to go to the back with her. They came back and Vicky informed me that the assistant would be helping out by taking off the gel I had on. Midway through the assistant taking off the gel, someone else tells me to come to their chair. Overall, the communication could be improved, especially by an owner.
Parking can be a stressor so get there early.Aug 19, 2020Previous reviewNote: visit their website at www.sunshinenailsva.com or Instagram account @Sunshinenailsva for pictures, pricing and possible 'specials'. Unfortunately, some things that should be a post are also found in the salons Instagram story. If you are having trouble with booking online or getting through via phone, someone will reply via Instagram message.
Customer Service: I've visited this salon a few times, including right before getting married as it was highly recommended by my wedding make-up artist. While most times, I don't have an issue with customer service, the salon still has a ways to go in that aspect. A little before the Covid era, there was a black woman that worked there. It was visible that working in the salon as the only black person who also didn't speak Vietnamese was uncomfortable; however, on one particular day I watched one of the Vietnamese ( I believe and apologize if I'm wrong) women begin to argue with the black nail artist. Vicky, the owner, was not working that day. Because the two did not speak the same language, it was apparent that the Vietnamese artist used her cellphone to call either a manager or possibly Vicky. She made the phone call in the back of the salon and then proceeded to hand the black artist the phone. I'm not sure what caused the argument, but it should have been a more private matter. Furthermore, I noticed that the black artist has not returned after the salon has re-opened during the pandemic. It could have been her own decision, but it's overall strange. Recently, I called the salon to see if they were accepting walk-ins. A woman with very limited English answered the phone and a man in the background was yelling 'she can come after 1 for a walk-in', so I confirmed that the man stated that I could come after 1pm to which the woman said yes. After driving a half hour to get there, I arrived at 1:30 and was told that they were not accepting walk-ins. I was pissed and asked why I was told that I could come after 1pm and a man states he did not know why I was told that but if I wanted my nails done I would have to wait until everyone in the salon was serviced. Mind you, it was packed (even during the pandemic). I left and went to another place I like visiting in the area.
Ambience: the salon has come a long way since I've started going there in changing the ambience. Lots of renovations have been made. Sometimes one can simply hear chatter, other times there may be music of various genres playing or the television is on. While I don't have an issue with the entertainment, it is often too packed for my liking. One would think that it would be less packed during a pandemic, but nope. Be sure to wear your mask!
Value: Again, the salon has made several renovations and has a few new services including lash extensions, bikini waxes, etc. In my opinion, they were a little pricey pre-covid, but now they seem to be making price changes every couple of months. I am not sure if it is to get the renovation money back, the pandemic, or both. Be aware that you will pay for almost every little thing. For example, in my recent visit, I had to pay an extra $5 for the removal of my gel polish and another $5 simply because I chose more than one color for my nails. The one thing I appreciated is that I was asked if it was okay BEFORE the service was completed.
Cleanliness: I've never had an issue with the salon being un-sanitary; however, there are some things the salon should change in the pandemic era. While a woman can be seen cleaning a lot and everything is wiped down after each client, there is not much of a way to social distance in the salon. The pedicure chairs now have some sort of glass or acrylic shield between each seat, but the nail salon stations are certainly within 6 feet of one another and do not have any kind of shield for separation which I don't understand.
Location: 8332 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309.
Tips: Strongly suggest making an appointment, especially during the covid era. And, if you are someone who is looking for a real detailed and specific design, I would suggest that you schedule your appointment with Vicky who is the salon owner. Also, be on time because they can and will change your accommodation if you are late.
Will update after the pandemic, if I can remember.
