Superstar KTV

Considering all the KTVs that have popped up around Flushing, Superstar has gone from one of the only options to one of the most scrutinized. Their pseudo off the beaten path on College Point Blvd was once a sell for Chinese singing locals, as well as the fact there was always a nice car parked out front. It was different, a little weird, and somehow unavoidable.

Their biggest issue this whole time has mainly been service. Whether it's non-Mandarin speakers having trouble with the system, being inattentive or severe bill mishaps, it's always been a crapshoot to deal with here. It becomes way more difficult with larger groups.

But not all is bad. The acoustics in the rooms are fairly good. Once one gets used to the system, the navigation between songs isn't so bad. Chinese songs are obviously dominant, but they have a small selection of non-Chinese music ranging from select English songs to even Japanese / Korean.

Speaking of the rooms, they're usually decked out in various themes, similar to places back in Asia. They also serve food, which range from simple snacks to late night kebabs. There are also rice plates and noodles, but just know the food doesn't make up for all the service issues.

Being open late has its perks as this place is open till the wee hours each night. it's not going to be the best karaoke experience out there, but it's very much part of the nightlife fabric that is Flushing.

The name is ideal to how I feel, I feel like a superstar when pulling up to this karaoke lounge! It makes me want to experience this in several ways. I love karaoke in a wonderful Chinese accent...no not Korean, that is too smooth. The staff makes me feel like everything is possible as a star and I am treated like one.

I know a ton of people have issues here, I have never experienced most of these problems. The only thing I would say is that the servers should wait for us to call on them before entering. I have been here for a few private events with close friends, it feels like you are the superstar. Of course, I do not really have an everyday car so I usually park right in the lobby. I'm sure this makes the staff treat me differently, I feel terrible for everyone else that isn't treated to this standard because it should be for every customer and not just the ones you think will spend a ton of money. Because believe me, I operate with other businesses and have my own projects going on. I am not expecting to spend more than the typical person in my group, no matter what high-end car I drive in with.

The selection is updated and enormous, I am more than sure you cannot settle on just one genre here. When my Korean or Filipino friends start singing, I feel like I could sing along with their languages. The echo in the room is perfect, plus it is a very comfortable setting. Come with me sometime and let us sing, with my voice I do not mind being a background singer. I will echo your vocals with great dynamism.

Superstar KTV is a new addition to the Flushing KTV scene. It is sad to see how many negative reviews there are. However, I don't really drink alcohol while travelling so their pricing was not an issue for me.
Plus, I had a Mandarin speaking friend hosting the entire group who is the master of KTV negotiations, so we were not taken advantage of.

It is a bit of a hike to this KTV from Main Street. It is about 0.25 miles South of Skyview Mall on the west side of the street.

Yes, the set-up is very interesting. The signage is totally legit, but then you walk into an open garage space with a shrine and a shack for the valet, from there into a mirror corridor that reminds me of a haunted house. The mirror maze is black, red, and dark and goes on a few minutes too long. Once you enter, everything is a blur from there, trying to get inside. Right by the host station, there a replica of an entire juice aisle in a grocery store. I can continue to describe everything, but you seriously have to see it for yourself to believe it.

We were there early and the hallway bathrooms were already disgusting. The rooms are HOT, and you cannot control the AC from inside the room.

As others have noted, the English Music selection is very limited. And, to be honest, it appeared that even the Mandarin language music selection was slim as well. There were some Korean songs, but most of them had Japanese karaoke lyrics... This was the only KTV in Flushing that I had trouble finding songs to sing.

But, even after all of that complaining--- I am very happy that I was able to try Superstar out and spend time with my fellow Yelpers here as well!

This place is new, so it is still clean and looks prettier than other karaoke spots. I agree with other yelpers. People that works here look like they don't want to serve you. They rush through everything.

They put us in room 102 but the ac was broken. 3 different hosts came in using the controller acting like they are fixing the situation when we repeatedly said the ac doesn't work. The right thing to do is to move us to another room but instead they play with the ac controller while all of us were sweating like pigs.

This place does try to rip you off. They sold this VIP membership to me for $128 telling me that I would get a credit of $100 and a fruit platter and discounts on other items on the menu. When the bill came, they didn't apply the $100 credit and none of the items are discounted. Lucky I was sober enough to tell them. They didn't give me any discount and just told me to pay $100 less after I discussed with them.

I actually don't like a lot of the new systems. Back in the days, when you click on the artist, English songs would be listed in alphabet order and Chinese songs would be listed based on the number of characters. It was hard to find certain songs and the system is in simplified Chinese character.

The small room is very small. TV screen is very close to sofa. The decorations are nice tho. But when we came out, we were told that the valet parking is $20 for 2 hours while we spend $22/hr for the room. Better find street parking to avoid unnecessary cost.

This place is amazing , I love the room and the location . The only thing bad in this place is the people works here they are not so friendly , poor customer service and they will keep coming into ur room as if you are doing something bad inside. U don't get privacy with these people. They only want your money and they will ruin ur night.

Got two bottles of Remy 1738 for $280z SERVICE IS IMPECCABLE. The room is amazing compared to the other karaoke rooms I've been to in NYC. There's button behind in the wall where you can call for service, control the music and add songs.

Rule #1 If you don't speak Mandarin, please don't bother coming here, because you will not be able to communicate with the staff.

Room for 6-8 people, rate $44 per hour. Your bill will be the greater amount of either for the (a) total of food and beverage you order or (b) the room rate. Ideally, you'd want to order amount of food & bev equal to your room rate. This is actually a very typical way of pricing in Chinese run KTVs.

Say, for 2 hrs, your room rate total is $88 - then order $88 worth of food & bev. They mark up the menu prices so it's easy to go over room rate.

The entrance of this KTV looks very shady and conspicuous. The venue is noticeably formerly a garage or warehouse. Flashy signs, open garage entrance, red-lit altar with left over scent of incense, and some guys smoking outside - Yeah, looks like a gang hangout spot from 90s Hong Kong films.

When you get inside, everything is actually quite normal. I actually saw family with kids walk in (but wtf?, personally, I reckon this place not recommended for children even under adult supervision).

Nice touchscreen karaoke systems, black leather couches, restroom inside the room - it's all good. Just another addition to Flushing KTV scene.
