Such an awesome sushi spot we stumbled upon!
Service was amazing! Food was great, especially for their price point. The crispy tuna was top tier!
Drinks were cheap and good!
Can't wait to come back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 21, 20241 check-in
I brought my coworkers here for fresh fish in a coastal city.
The food was okay. All of the sushi and nigiri we ordered was passable.
We dined here for lunch on a weekday, and I found their service to be acceptable, albeit uninspired. I also find the local favorite, Santa Barbara uni, listed on the menu at "market price," an affront to the average lunch diner.
They are operating a restaurant in Santa Barbara. The uni shouldn't be "market price." It was also more expensive than it is in Reno, where I reside. $19 for two uni nigiri in Santa Barbara is robbery.
Anyway, I ordered two of those.
The restaurant was mediocre, in terms of ambiance, and could use a deep clean. The fan blades inside were covered with dust, and the overall aesthetic of the place could best be described as "sticky."
I'd recommend looking into other venues, especially if uni is at the top of your list. In a coastal city known for uni, there's no reason to settle.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amber E.San Diego, CA73825665126Jan 6, 2024
Came in today for a sushi lunch - very affordable sushi, especially for Santa Barbara! Specialty rolls are $14-$18; and House rolls $6.60 (California roll) to $13. We got the Fisherman Roll with yellowtail, shrimp, avocado, cucumber and a sesame eel sauce ($13), (my daughter didn't want the wasabi yuzu sauce) - really tasty! And then the Chapala Roll - with tuna, yellowtail, white fish, shrimp, avocado and cucumber (just $12). Both a little difficult to eat; kind of fell apart; maybe because the seaweed was chewy, but really tasty!

Came here on whim as they had a lunch special and I am always willing to try out to see if I like how they make their sushi. And have to say my favorite which wasn't on their lunch menu was the mango roll that was written on the board when you first walk in! I would definitely come back again as the waitress was incredibly sweet to serve us quickly and was very careful in setting us up to enjoy all our food on the table. Price was right for lunch and food was fast. Edamame was warm and salty which I like as well as served with ginger and a second helping at my request since it's so yummy with our rolls. I would like to come back and explore dinner with different rolls and some sushi with some Japanese beer as this place had potential for a great evening vibe too.

Had dinner here with my UCSB Gaucho who was missing good authentic Japanese food. We picked this restaurant mainly for the okonomiyaki pancake from the menu, which is not often served or on the menu in the vast majority of Japanese restaurants.
I wanted something warm in my tummy so I chose the ramen and it did not disappoint with the the rich broth and tasty veggies. The okonomiyaki was crispy and savory with some nice saltiness from the sauce, kept in check by the creamy sauce also present. The agedashi tofu was silky warm and yummy. Overall, a nice experience!
The service was great, attentive, and fairly quick after ordering. Medium noise from conversations and kichen hubbub, you can also call and make a reservation ahead of time, which is recommended for Thursdays , Fridays, and Saturdays.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Alex O.Santa Barbara, CA141343Mar 1, 2024
Sushi Bar 29 is definitely my favorite sushi place in Santa Barbara. The value is really great - high quality sushi at a reasonable price. The service is always excellent. The atmosphere is nice, but not fancy, and I find it to be a perfect spot for a casual meal. I love the Seafood Ceviche Salad, Mexicali roll, Lion King roll, and the Shrimp tempura roll (just to name a few).

Good American fusion sushi rolls. Not the best in SB, but they are good. I have been here a few times and the red dragon roll is always tasty; Seared albacore with the sauce on top is great. I also got the snake roll, which was essentially a California roll with eel and ponzu on top. Potion sizes for most* their special rolls is good, but can be inconsistent.
Alcohol list consists of the typical 3-4 Asian light beers, a few different types of sake, and a few bottles of wine.
Interior of the restaurant needs help. The bar area was truely one of the nicest in sb. Bar 29 was the restaurant in there previously and all of it has been re- used and appears old. They do not have any sushi bar seating and for some reason the cash register is still basically in the middle of the dining area, and has not been moved back to where it should be. Also this building gets a terrible direct shot of sunlight at sunset and needs curtains!!
Good food but the dining area needs work, this place is too expensive to hit the dive bar level.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 7, 2022
Sushi date night! My fiancé and I came here on a Friday night around 5 and got right in. They do a great job of transforming the street corner into a pleasing dining experience inside. The music is wonderful and the staff is so friendly, kind and knowledgeable about what to recommend.
They menu has something for everyone, but not to the point where it's overwhelming. I would like to see a few more options for people that don't like spicy things though, but my rolls were great regardless.
I got the Lion King roll and Snake roll to mix things up from my normal rainbow roll order. The lion king roll was Delish and the eel on the snake roll was sooo good.
My fiancé got the Tuna Box roll and Hurricane roll. His favorite was the box roll, which we heard is a favorite among many here! But he loved the hurricane roll too.
I don't think you can go wrong here with any order! And just ask the servers for their recommendations if your stumped!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Julia C.Studio City, CA09Jan 18, 2024
service was awful, they kept on rushing us out. We got there and got sat right away but were waiting for another person from our party. Within 2 minutes they asked us if we were ready to order and I explained how we were waiting on one more person. Immediately when our other friend came they asked us if we were ready to order. They were trying to rush us. Didn't even ask if we had any questions about the menu. Then the food came out, I got spicy tuna and it did not taste the best. I ended up having a stomach ache the rest of the night. Then finally we got the bill and they charged us for something we did not even order!!
When we complained they acted like they did not know. Definitely not coming back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
