Overall my experience is not bad, I just don't like that the restaurant is old and the atmosphere is weird.
The goods: The salmon sushi and the eel sushi are fine, the steak hibachi is good but just put some soy sauce on the fried rice would taste better, the chicken wings and fried oysters are good, the coconut shrimp is not coconut shrimp, just fried shrimp but yet it taste good.
The bads: The shrimp yakisoba is seen on the picture I posted, small like my boogers, and too sweet. The roll I ordered was recommended by our server, can't remember the name but it has mango and fried shrimp in it, and the mango is tasteless and hard, and the batter of the fried shrimp is soft so I didn't even finish it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 5, 2017
Walked in to order some sushi to go.
The manager and the host were very friendly and easy to approach.
What i noticed first when i took my first bite was the RICE... I just didn't like the rice in the sushi. The rice tasted like the sushi you buy at the grocery store, you know, that mushy sort-of-hard non satisfying taste rice but the fish and everything else on my sushi was good. So I just peeled off all the rice and ate everything else.
I ordered the Hawaii and King maki, the Hawaii was good, I always enjoyed sushi with a slight citrus/fruit taste to it. If the rice was better, I would definitely order that again. The king was okay, shrimp tempura on the inside and avocado and eel on the outside.
Luckily, I used the coupon on Yelp. So I didn't pay too much for my meal. Would I order here again? Probably not since there is a lot more sushi places around, but I would like to try their buffet.
Enjoy!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 18, 2018
I would not recommend Sushi King to anyone, unless you don't care what sushi tastes like and are planning to eat 2+ full Westernized Japanese meals in one sitting.
I came to Sushi King with my family when we were in the are a for a simple dinner. The food is sub-par (maybe the worst Americanized sushi I've ever had), to put it nicely. The sashimi didn't taste like anything I've had before, and not in a good way. The sushi was made of mostly rice, and I found that everything else I tried was either carb heavy or greasy. The soup was bland and watery. The flavors were indistinct, and blended together into some sort of ambiguously savory flavor. The fish was... mushy(?).
The service was fine-- not bad, but unremarkable. It is all-you-can-eat, but is not a buffet. You need to place an order with your server every time you want something else. Be prepared to call him/her over, since they don't come to check on your frequently. The food doesn't take forever to come out but it's certainly not quick.
The restaurant's atmosphere was quite odd. The lighting was dim, and something about it just made it seem like no one should be talking too loudly.
For $20, you can order as much as you want, but not too much, because if you have leftovers, you will be fined (this is seriously what the server told us). You will receive very mediocre food and won't be sure that it'll settle well. Save your $20 for somewhere else.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer D.Virginia Beach, VA4745135Mar 12, 2018
Bought a groupon to try this place and it did not disappoint! We got the all you can eat! Tried lots of items! We were happy with all of them! I will definitely come back and tell my friends. Our table tried ordered the following:
Crab Rangoon's, shrimp tempura, fried oysters, volcano roll, khaki salad, hibachi shrimp and chicken with fried rice, tuna tataki, yellowfin with jalapeños, salmon bowl, peppered tuna, seaweed salad, shrimp cocktail and fried bananas.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jackie J.Kansas City, MO921332Jun 20, 2018
I really enjoyed my experience at Sushi King! We had a Groupon so it was a great deal - 2 people for $20 (we also had a promo code.) But to be honest, the $19.99 price is worth it - it includes everything on the attached menu, as many times as you would like.
This place is wonderful because I always stick to one type of sushi, so this restaurant is a great place to try new foods.
I had sushi, appetizers, the specialty rolls, and dessert. Everything was made fresh - the crab Rangoon's were awesome!! I had three servings The waitress takes your order on an iPad and the only thing you need to do is FINISH EVERYTHING ON YOUR PLATE! Otherwise, you will be charged.
Things I didn't like: The Hot Crab and Cream Cheese Roll and the Japanese Cheesecake
Things I loved: Crab Rangoon's, trying new sushi types.
We will definitely be back!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lynn A.Virginia Beach, VA1641701Jan 5, 2018
My family and I have eaten at several Sushi King's in the past, but this location is just awful. This location needs to take a cooking class at the Centerville location. Everything lacks flavor and presentation.
This is my second time here, my husband wanted to try what my bad experience was. I decided to try again just in case MAYBE they improved but it didn't. They offer ramen here. It was not served hot. Just very disappointed. Promise not to return for a 3rd time.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 17202343Aug 5, 2018
As a family we've been to several all you can eat sushi places, including the Sushi King location in Chesapeake. This was the worst experience I've ever had, and brings to mind all those stereotypical establishments that prey on service members right outside the gate.
The waiter didn't seem to care. The food took forever. They brought us the wrong food. The food that we did order, came out wrong. The food that was correct, tasted terrible. Finally, the place was dirty.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Caron G.Virginia Beach, VA11513Apr 11, 2017
This is the third Sushi King that I've been too and I was really impressed by their food presentation and service.
I came here after shopping with my mom on a Sunday night. I don't remember the name of our waitress, but I do remember that she kept our glasses full and checked on us often to make sure our orders were ready one after another. She was knowledgeable about the food and very patient with us as we tried to figure out what we wanted next.
This Sushi King definitely gets props for having the prettiest presentation. One of the plates I ordered was so beautifully decorated, I couldn't believe it came from an AYCE restaurant. The sushi chefs really outdid themselves!
Everyone at this restaurant seemed to put a lot of heart into making it a great experience and it was definitely appreciated!
I ordered the crab rangoon, volcano roll, Hawaiian roll, and Virginia Beach roll, and they were all perfect. I also tried the peppered tuna from the salad bar and it was really tasty! (And the proper temperature which is really important and sometimes overlooked.)
All in all this Sushi King was top quality! I will definitely be back!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 1111851448Jan 6, 2017
We arrived around 6:30 to meet up with some friends who had arrived a few minutes earlier and were seated immediately. We joined them go see they already had food on the table.
The best part about Sushi King is that it is not only all you can eat, but the food is also made to order so you are not questioning how long it may have been sitting out or if it is safe to eat. Not only is it cooked to order, but additionally they have a buffet with their salads and fruits. My personal favorite salad is their seaweed salad, and at this location it is on the buffet so I may help myself to as much as I would like.
I have been to two other locations which are also enjoyable, but I believe based on it's convenient location I will be returning to this one more frequently than the other two.
Being a sub par girlfriend, I regretfully learned my boyfriend had never experienced this restaurant and I'm sorry to say I hadn't realized it sooner. He can't wait to go back. I highly recommend Sushi King!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0
