Had a delightful experience at Tanaka Ramen! The dishes were simple and straightforward, hitting all the right notes of flavor. We tried two bowls of ramen, each one very tasty, accompanied by perfectly salted edamame. Not only was the food reasonably priced, but the decor was inviting and well-thought-out, adding to the overall pleasant ambiance.
The water served was refreshingly good, which is always a nice touch. However, it's worth noting that there's no restroom available on-site, which might be a slight inconvenience. Overall, a great spot for a casual and delicious meal. Highly recommend trying it out!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Terry L.Honolulu, HI0208563Apr 16, 2024
Food - I've definitely had better ramen and curry in Honolulu. I'd say the food was decent, but not great enough to make me want to go back.
Service - Again, Tanaka Ramen is not known for good and friendly service. It's super minimal. Not very friendly and the servers did not make me really feel welcomed into the restaurant.
Ambience - This falls flat. I felt like the restaurant needed a really good deep cleaning. I didn't like the fact that the cleaning products and implements were out in the open. It just felt unclean in general, from floors to chairs to tables.
Overall - I would absolutely keep walking by Tanaka Ramen. There are SO many choices in Ala Moana Shopping Center. Tanaka Ramen should step up their game if they want to remain competitive in the mall.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Terry,
Thank you for taking your time to write this review.
First of all, there’s a customer vomit on the floor and we cleaned it right away. We’re still in the middle of cleaning when you arrived.
We keep our store in a good cleaning condition. Even the kitchen. The mop and mop bucket is out because we’re trying to clean the vomit. I don’t understand what you mean by our interior is like something out of a third world country.
My apologies for the inconvenience, but by the state law of Hawaii, it’s not required to have a restroom in every restaurant.
Is there any problem with our services? What makes you feel that we don’t care and we don’t take pride? I hardly get any complains for our services.
Thank you for your time.

The ramen here isn't as good as other ramen places you can find on the island in my opinion. The broth lacked flavor for some reason and I felt like I was eating saimin rather than ramen. The fried oysters were really delicious though.
While I enjoyed the service and food came extremely quick, I don't know if I'd come back to this place just because the ramen isn't the best, especially for the price. There's cheaper ramen places that taste way better to me.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Gun Y.Kalihi Valley, Honolulu, HI156Apr 7, 2024
Vegetarian ramen is mid. Pretty flavorless and boring. Wouldn't recommend for those of you who don't eat meat.
Looks like they didn't spend a lot of time on the interior as well; could've done a better job draping the cables on the fixtures. Stools are an awkward height for tall people.
Waitstaff is trained on the menu, but not customer serviceHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 17, 2024
We came here when it was cold and windy.
Service was awesome and they were attentive and nice.
I got the spicy vegan ramen and my friend got the won ton soup. We also got an appetizer but I can't remember lol.
Great food, great service and definitely will be back again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 10, 2024Updated review
This is my boyfriend's go to place for ramen.
I find that the Ala moana location is better than the kapolei location in terms of the flavors. When I went to the kapolei location, the broth was pretty bland and I didn't get anything different.
In terms of service, the ala moana location is always busy. There will be a few minute wait so don't come here when you are starving because chances are, you'll wait for longer than 15 mins. However once you are seated, you get your food pretty fast.
The ramen here I would give a solid 8/10.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Sep 4, 2022Previous reviewTanaka Ramen at Ala Moana Mall, Honolulu is the best ramen place I have had. The noodles are perfectly cooked where it is not too soft. My favorite ramen to get is the Tanaka Spicy with corn added in. Fair warning - the spice levels are 1-5 and honestly, I can tolerate spicy things fairly well but a 3 made me almost die. My perfect spice level there would be a 2.5 but they don't have halves so I just do a 2.
In terms of service, they get really busy so there may be a little bit of a wait. It's so worth it though.
This place has more locations than just HNL, I went to the one in Schaumburg, Illinois and it wasn't as good.
If you're in town, you MUST get try this place. - 8310055Apr 10, 2024
Best ramen I've ever had - specifically the Chicken Wonton Tori. Creamy, flavorful, and the wontons were perfect! Great ratio of noodles to broth, which is, in my opinion, the hardest thing to get right about ramen. Servers were friendly and efficient, food came out quickly. Fun, relaxing pop music helps set this place apart from "fancy" ramen establishments in a great way. Will be back!

Comfy, cozy atmosphere with delicious ramen and izakaya selections. The decor is very cute! There's a samurai eating a bowl of ramen and another piece depicting a large bowl of ramen. The staff is friendly and provides quick service.
Everything I've tried here has been delicious! My favorite is the "Build Your Own Ramen" because you can add whatever customizations you want. I also enjoy the Spicy Tori (chicken-based broth with chicken chashu and thin noodles) and Spicy Tonkatsu (tonkatsu/pork broth with pork chashu). The black garlic oil is great, and you should definitely give it a taste as an addition to your ramen sometime!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 39321558Dec 12, 2023Updated review
When I'm feeling down, ramen from Tanaka always hits the spot. There's something about the high quality of ingredients that the staff uses that always makes me want to come back.
No matter the season summer or winter this is the causal spot that I go to for a pick me up when I'm down :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 8, 2022Previous reviewLast minute local spot to suffice our ramen cravings to catch up with my girls.
Shoutout to the Tuesday evening crew. I ordered a Spicy Creamy Vegan and was very surprised with the texture of noodles and broth. Would definitely recommend for something both filling and delicious!
Our server Devin provided helpful and quality service along with the ingredients and meal. Excited to return to this spot :) - Sep 13, 2023
Haven't been to this location for a while. Last time was when things started to open back up.
Glad they still kept this same. First time getting the combo menu since it's only on weekdays up to a certain time.
I ordered gyoza and the Tanaka Tori ramen from the combo menu. It also lets you order a drink too.
Everything tasted pretty good. Broth of the ramen is pretty good for a ramen place at the mall. Glad the veggie was nice and green too. Not like the ramen I had at the Aiea location where that day they seem to have given some kind of not too green veggie. Gyoza is nice and soft, but could be slightly bigger. Factoring in it's Ala Moana location it is already worth the price.
It was early lunch so service was good. Place is pretty clean and well kept after so many years. I like they kept those panels to give some privacy.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
