I recently dined at Tawakal East African Restaurant and unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. Despite the enticing menu, the dishes I ordered fell far short of my expectations. The flavors were bland and lacked the promised depth. The presentation was underwhelming, and it seemed as though little effort went into preparing the dishes.

I had hoped for a memorable dining experience, but the lackluster food overshadowed any positive aspects. It's unfortunate that the potential I saw in the menu wasn't realized in the actual dishes. I believe that a restaurant's food is its essence, and in this case, it was a letdown.

I hope Tawakal East African Restaurant takes this feedback constructively and works on improving the food quality to match the expectations set by the menu. As it stands, I cannot recommend the restaurant based on my recent visit.

Another advice please serve injera everyday rather than just on the weekends! Only having certain foods and different days really limits the amount of choices a customer can have.

Wow, wow, and... wow! Ordered the vegetarian platter for carry out. The meal was a very large in size, enough to feed two people. The dish was fresh and contained flavorful ingredients, providing a rewarding culinary experience. Would have uploaded a photo, however, the plate was empty before the opportunity arose. Looking forward to enjoying various menu items as I will be a returning customer. Thank you, Tawakal East African Restaurant.

A place you would want to experience. The atmosphere is a bit basic. But that does not have any bearing on the quality and care put in to the food. Very vegetarian friendly. With portions and variety for meat eaters. Would recommend

This little restaurant is a hidden gem in Greeley. The food was so good and the owners are very friendly. I really enjoyed the chicken. My friend got the kaykay and it was delicious too!!! I brought home goat and rice for my roommate and it was full of flavor. I can't wait to go back on a weekend for injera!

The food is amazing! And the people who run it are so sweet. The Red Sea special is very good and so is the veggie plate. The places are gigantic so I recommend splitting with people. You get to eat with your hands foo
I really love going to this restaurant. The food is delicious and very authentic.
You have to request a check or go up to pay though, that isn't completely clear.

Update- just ordered takeout and the food was ready quickly and still amazing.

Well, it's nice to see Greeley with a decent ethnic restaurant - hope it can last with the non-adventurous demographic we seem to be saddled with.

The place is new and decor seems to be secondary to food at the moment. And the food is good, make no mistake. With the closing of Nyala in Fort Collins, this seems to be the only Ethiopian joint in northern Colorado. I found it a bit odd when you order water, they bring you bottled water and charge a buck for it - I'd suggest they get some glassware and offer free water. The food is not inexpensive, so...

We had the veggie plates, which came with plenty of injera bread. It included shurro, cabbage and potatoes, some kind of lentils, salad and collard greens - it was all very tasty. There was actually spice added to the dishes, normally if you ask for something "medium" you may as well have asked for blandness personified. Here, you actually get some heat, and it's good.

The service was good, but for the price is expect a bit more care in the decor and presentation. But for Greeley, it's a welcome addition to the local scene.

This place is fantastic! I ordered the Juicy Tibsi and it was extremely delicious. The portion you receive is massive. It's served on top of injera bread and with more injera bread to scoop with. The bread itself was perfect as well as the main dish. I highly recommend this place.

Thank you for bringing wonderful Ethiopian food to Greeley. We're lucky to have it!

Our family stopped here on a midday Saturday after going to the winter Greeley farmers Market close by. We didn't know what to order and settled on the Juicy Tibsi and the Red Sea Special. This was brought out on a big platter lined with the traditional injura spongy flat bread with generous portions of many delicious meat and vegetable selections. You pull off pieces of the bread and use it to scoop up the delicious stews with your hands. The Kenyan tea with milk and sugar was very good. We had plenty to feed our family of four. We were happy to discover this gem in downtown Greeley.

I would give this 5 out of 5 for good quality but took one star off for atmosphere. It is in a small diner like setting and was a bit difficult to communicate with the staff, although they were very friendly and the service was good.

I really wanted to have this restaurant be successful as I love Ethiopian food and the food is good. Unfortunately the service has been terrible. I've ordered from here a number of times and they have been out of things frequently and have had to substitute items. The final straw has been when we ordered as a group and when they were out of one of the entrees just omitted it from the order rather than contacting me or sending a substitute. When I called they were very rude on the phone. Unfortunately I don't think I can continue to patronize this business.

Yesterday was the first time I had eaten at this place. It was definitely a different dining experience. I ordered the veggie combo. It came with split lentils, cabbage, yellow peas, shiro, salad and collard greens. All of this is eaten with a type of soft bread that is porous on one side. No utensils were provided. Everything was delicious but a little difficult to eat for a first timer. There was not a thing on my plate that I did not enjoy. I wish they had chicken dish options as most of the dishes were beef based.
