The Burger Bar by Wegmans

We discovered this place to eat before the concert at Capital One Hall since it's in the same building. In order to get in, you have to walk outside and come in the front door.

Food (4/5):
Def would come get the Maple Bacon Cheeseburger again! The bacon jam and caramelized onions were amazing on the burger. And the herb fries!

Service (3/5): you have to order from the bar.

I have had my share of burgers. Was heading to Burger Shack (been before, great!) or 5Guys. Decided to try here. Gross! No flavor at all. No idea how you can make a crappy burger but ‍. To top it off I was asked if I wanted anything else? Said no. As I am leaving I noticed a sign saying ALL REGULAR HAMBURGERS GET FREE CRUNCHY FRIES! Was not told or offered that at check out. Go to 5 Guys! So much better!

The setting is actually great. After a walking through a beautiful grocery store, completely hungry from what you're purchased and seen it sounds like a great idea to stop for a meal. The convenience of the location, the laid back setting with ample seating and even a super kid friendly specific seating section all line up to be a nice breather from grocery shopping.

However, the food, particularly for the price does not deliver. My husband ordered the cheeseburger and added bacon, making it a $10 burger. The only problem is that it was the size and quantify of a $3-$4 fast food value menu cheeseburger. My kiddos each got a kids meal, one cheeseburger meal and one chicken tenders meal. Portion sizes for the kids meals were fine, but quality was also that of a fast food kids meal. Lastly, I had the Maple Bacon Cheeseburger which actually was delicious and proportional size for the price, $11.

Overall, I don't think we would utilize the menu at this portion of the store but would consider ordering hot/prepared foods within the store and then using the cafe space to eat.

Today I had an American Classic Burger for the second time. All the toppings and the meat done-ness were accurate to my order and the burger looked beautiful. But sadly, the patty had no taste. Do they season the beef patty? I hope they will start seasoning the meat with salt and pepper to bring out umami from the meat in the near future.
I am giving 3 stars with expectation of improvement in the future. Please season the meat with salt and pepper.

Came in today. Ordered a create your own burger with a side of Tuscan fries, chicken avocado BLT with the crispy fried chicken breast instead of the grilled and a kids chicken tenders.
The burger was ok. Nothing great, nothing bad. Cooked medium.
Tuscan fries were hard as a rock.
Chicken tenders were ok. Came out hot for the kid.
Now when we ordered the chicken avocado BLT we asked if the grilled chicken breast could be replaced with the fried chicken breast. Cashier looked at us as if we were speaking another language and the cook had to come out to tell him what we wanted. Lo and behold we got up charged $3 for the fried chicken breast... Even though the chicken avocado is the higher priced sandwich. Makes no sense.
Another pet peeve, no kids high chair within reach. They are located near the bathrooms.
While here, we also noticed a customer talk to the cashier about his burger not being cooked correctly and either this guy is good at playing dumb and what not the customer just got frustrated and walked away.

On an unusually quiet Friday night before a long week-end, my wife and I popped in for a burger. There are quite a few options here to choose from but the counter person was helpful in helping to narrow down the list. We both ended up ordering turkey burgers with a half Greek salad as our side. They have several local beers on tap that we took advantage of as well.

Pager in hand, we walked to the outside dining area with our beers to enjoy the pleasant evening. There is plenty of seating indoors as well and later we learned live entertainment. The wait was reasonable for our burgers that one picks up back at the counter. Be sure to ask for whatever condiments you need as just ketchup is available in the dining room. Had to get mayo for my wife?!

Our burgers were fresh and tasty. Being made of turkey they were not overly filling and hit the spot. I loved their Greek salad especially the feta cheese that I am a sucker for. Overall our meal was pleasant and we will surely return perhaps when we actually need to purchase some groceries in the future.

Let me start by saying I LOVE Wegmans. A pioneer on so many fronts in the grocery industry, they need to rethink their approach to dining. Yes, the world has a labor issue. Yes, people do not want reusable food trays after a pandemic, but holy sh!t, this restaurant is a disaster. If it didn't have the margin and overhead of a attached, mega grocery store, it would have been shut down. The food is OK, but nothing special and certainly not worth 25 bucks for two sandwiches an order of fries and two beers. The octogenarian help struggle with the cash, register, service, and hearing a customer place an order correctly. Not trying to be unkind, but if your Frontline staff can't do the work, they are not effective. I count at least five people behind the counter, double the number of guests to have placed an order since we sat down. And our food was delivered to us wrapped to go (screw sustainability !!!) despite the fact that we were sitting 10 feet away from the person who took our order. But very nice of the other older lady, to bring the order to us. And yes, it was wrong. But it was too much difficulty to ask to make it right. I don't know who's in charge of Wegmans foodservice operations, but it's clearly no one who has anything associated with the level of quality and service at Wegmans has built their brand on. And the ambience in the restaurant is a kin to a morgue. Which is What this place will be if somebody doesn't step in and redefin processes, add some ambience and guest experience; and ensure that the people working on the front line actually can handle the work.

It's nice that a restaurant exists inside Wegmans! So happy to see that this restaurant is available for the many office spaces in this area.

This is a lower end 3.5 rating... I went back and forth between 3 and 3.5. I put four in the hopes that on my next visit they will make some critical changes. It's only because of the freshness of the patty and ingredients... But it could get lowered by my next visit...

1. They got my menu item wrong which means I had to wait for them to fix it while my fries got colder.

2. They just serve the bread straight out of the bag... without buttering it and putting it on the grille for crisp edging...

3. The lettuce was a single leaf and limp... I would love to see them chop it up to give some crisp and volume. They also should serve 2 tomatoes and some nice crisp onions with it. These are just basics of a good burger.

4. The good is the freshness of the patty and size. It is a considerably larger and thicker patty than most places and cooked well!

If this place makes few adjustments, I think it could quickly become one of my favorite burger places in the area. I hope they take the reviews seriously!

The sweet potato fries were well made... just a bit cold from the wait...

We both got the American Burger and fries. The burgers were pretty good, but very messy. The fries were tasty. We tried regular and Tuscan flavors. Prices should be a bit lower though. They make the burgers to order so they give you a thing that lights up when your food is ready. They brought out the food as soon as it lit up. It only took a short time for them to cook the food. We were the only ones there eating at the time. It looked clean. There are signs for customers to flip over after they leave the table so people know if the table is clean or dirty.

This is a classic pictures look better than the actual food. The new fried chicken sandwich was good but puny. Look at the picture. As a comparison, Popeye's fried chicken sandwich gives you 2-3x more meat at half the cost. The fries were also disappointing. They advertise crispy fries and for a dollar more, you can get Tuscan fries (garlic and herbs and supposedly more crispy). On top of that, I specifically requested extra crispy (more time in the fryer). I think this chain needs to read a dictionary on what crispy actually means. The fries were as limp as a wilted flower. Fail.

It's probably my fault for going to a restaurant inside of a grocery store. Lesson learned.
