Good great experience at the original Mickey igloo. I always take my dog there after I bathe him in Port Ewen. I get a medium vanilla cone and I give him about a half a cup. That's his treat for being such a good dog while he was getting his It's so delicious I love soft, serve ice cream it's one of my favorite things in the whole world.

Overpriced, not great quality ice cream. Edible cookie dough was so sweet I couldn't even eat it after 2 bites. Waste of $9.95. However, the hot dogs are really good! I've heard the other food menu items are good as well.

Up until today's trip to this Mickey's Igloo, the only other Mickey's Igloo I had gone to in the past was the Mickey's Igloo on Hurley Ave. However, today was really my first encounter with Mickey's Igloo on E Chester St and I'm glad to say that I stopped there and had my first experience.
My mother, brother, and I were wondering where we were going for something sweet, and after puzzling out whether we'd go to Burger King or something else when my brother decided he would give us a mysterious puzzle to solve of "where he was going", we all were kept in mystery not knowing he'd be heading towards there. Parking was great - (but later backing out was terrible), plenty of spots in front, and I saw some more on the sides and close to the back (since we parked next to the trash bin near the 3-way side street, but technically in the place's lot.
But when I saw the list of ice cream flavors, my amazement grew. I was debating whether I wanted Cake Batter or Cotton Candy flavor (as they both sounded mysteriously good) or if I wanted a few other backups, and once my brother went up to place my mom's and his order, he must not have heard me - before he left the carside spot (my mom had a stroke in 2020 and it's not easy for her to move).
He placed the order. We tend to use credit cards, so when he placed it everything was fine.
But when my mom screamed to him that he missed one, he tried to gather the information then went up and explained this. They said that just in this instance that just the $3.00 would be okay (but they weren't too happy making this decision).
But once the ice cream came out, I tasted it as it started to drip down the side and I had to "mop" it up with my tongue the second it arrived - and boy did it taste really good. He chose Cake Batter because my mom advised him that's what she'd have me choose (I couldn't decide between the two). It was rich and creamy, and outside of the drippy side at first, I really couldn't complain. I could tell it wasn't water, but perhaps a better brand of milk that I wasn't quite used to tasting - and that might have been good.
But coming out of their lot onto E Chester St is a pain. Between the (E Chester St Bypass-Curve and the two other side streets that come to the sides of this place, plus the ample amount of business from the other nearby business (including the body shop business), tied to the missing traffic lights in lieu of stop signs not slowing down cars enough one block away, really slows people backing up out of their spots, and if advised with no cars nearby, those at the garbage can line can either back up enough (while not moving into the street) and exit onto the side streets where they can turn around, or choose to wait (and that wait can now extend for quite some time).
I counted about 12 cars that came past back-to-back - all of which we had to wait for! Traffic flow is now horrendous with the missing traffic light there!
I'm still in love with another ice cream shop, because its closer to me - on my side of the Hudson River, but it's a hit or miss here, and only if we are out of ideas and the moment strikes to make a final decision on ice cream places because I do think this place did a good job at solving their soft-serve equations.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tammy K. I live locally in the Town of Esopus and there are many ice cream places to choose from. That being said, we went to Mickey's tonight for the 3rd time this week!! I love that it is family owned and everyone is so friendly! Perry's Ice Cream is amazing!! Not many places around here carry it. My husband is obsessed with the Hot Weiners! The sauce is so good. I wonder if they sell it? I will have to ask next time. And the soft serve choices are too many for me! I want them all. Tonight I had the Black Raspberry with chocolate Sprinkles on a wafer cone and my daughter had the Cake Batter in a sugar cone! I don't know why anybody has an issue with the parking lot. There are so many places to park! We parked out front and had no problem getting out. There is parking all around the building and a playground for kids! I'm already planning on going back for lunch tomorrow! I eat out 5 days a week and The Original Mickey's Igloo is now in my rotation! I know I can count on an excellent experience and fantastic food and ice cream!!

So many things were bad, it's hard finding a positive.
Cons:
- there's no true line ... it's family run and they shout out of windows when they see you
- asked me if I wanted my sausage and peppers parm, I said I didn't, just peppers and onions with mustard. Got it in sauce anyway. Told that's the kind they make.
- if I hadn't been so specific, picture sign in front shows traditional sausage and peppers
- ordered dinners for two people, asked for ketchup and mustard, given two packets
- when I had to go back up for more, someone behind some window shouted, "What do you need now?" When I clearly couldn't see inside or who was speaking.
I'd never return. Both thumbs emphatically down.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mae A.Poughkeepsie, NY36114Jul 12, 2020
I love this place and its recent revival in the community has yielded multiple overwhelmingly enjoyable trips there with my family. I'm one of those people who is trying a new diet every week and I can always find a treat to enjoy with my family at Mickey's. My kids love the Perry's ice cream, the ice pops and the soft serve. I have enjoyed the dole whip and the vegan ice cream. If you're going to enjoy a treat, do it right, get the yummiest treat- so we go to Mickey's for our treats.

Love this place! Been going here for years. It's improved under the new management. The servers are all very friendly and serving sizes for ice cream are good. Great place to indulge yourself with ice cream on a summer day!

The absolute worst shaved ice ive had in my life. Took 15 minutes to make and the cherry taste was so bad that the three of us threw them in the trash.

A couple of coworkers told me to visit Mickey's based on the strength of two of their items: the hot wiener with meat sauce and the soft serve ice cream.
The hot dog was extremely disappointing. I know, I know, it's a freaking roadside ice cream stand for godsakes, who gives a shit about their hot dog? Well, apparently, a bunch of people from the Kingston area, so the dogs are fair game. Mickey's gives you an unexciting, boiled dog with a thin layer of unappealing, almost jelly like meat sauce. Not to mention the sauce has barely any meat and little kick. Oh well, Dallas' is just down the street.
While the hot dog failed, the soft serve ice cream sure as hell wins. The recipe, passed down over the past few decades, creates an awesome blend creamy, tasty vanilla and chocolate. Ever get soft serve that tends to resist melting despite 90 degree temperatures? Might be because of a certain amount of gum like substances added to the mixture (or, a lack of air in the mix). Big ups to Mickey's for eschewing more modern ice cream manufacturing methods and kickin it old school. I enjoyed the shit out of my cone after a lackluster dog.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
