      Bang the gavel. Sold!

Had a hankering for something from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and culturally familiar to my palate. Google turned up The Powerhouse Restaurant in Near South Side. After having a fish pie, meat pie, and egusi, I was proper stuff, overjoyed, satisfied, and sleepy. One thing to note is that if you get egusi with fish, there will be a lot of fine bones to deal with but lots of meat in the dish to enjoy.

I noticed the owner walking the floor, asking patrons how their dining experience was. Talk about outstanding service. The food was already a win for me but good service means repeat visits for me.

Gonna make some time for a return to try the Cameroonian version of egusi.

I come here solely for the African dishes. And dining here for me is an intensely nostalgic and mindful experience as it connects me to my roots.

Julia, you do a wonderful job! I'll be bringing along many friends to expose them to our version of food for the soul.

Ok I have to say as a American woman I've grown accustomed to Nigerian and African food. It's so tasty and full of flavor.....this place I've visited plenty times and each time it's been yummy. Today was exceptional though, fresh, hot and it didn't take long at all. I'm pleased with the owner she goes out her way to make sure her customers are happy and that's important in the restaurant business. I'll definitely be back

Unbeknownst to me this place next door to Reggie's has been open for months in south loop. The restaurant is small however it doesn't feel crowded per se. During my visit there was a large family who seemed to be celebrating a graduation so most of the staff were attending their needs. It took about five minutes for someone to take my order & about another 20 min to receive said order. Nothing about my food was terrible however I say any dish stood out, was worth a mention or worthy of a second visit would be a stretch. South loop continues to be a food desert regarding outstanding dishes however when you're in the mood for a quick meal in the vicinity then you could do a lot worse than this place. The avocado shrimp was decent, plenty of avocado with a few rations of shrimp. The chicken was well season but you could tell a couple of feathers were still attached. Plenty of street parking is available & a television with random news is in the dining room

I'm so glad there's finally a restaurant that serves African cuisine that isn't way up in the north! These sisters are really hospitable and are willing to explain dishes to those who have never tried it. I found the ingredients to be really fresh in comparison to some of the other places I've tried. I had egusi, goat pepper stew, skewer appetizer, and okra soup - all were spiced nicely with very tender meat. I have already been here twice and will be looking forward to more visits!

Whatever you do, make sure you do NOT order delivery from this restaurant or be ready to wait over 1 hour for your food to even get to the driver even though they advertise 10-20 mins. Their number also doesn't work. What kind of establishment does business like this? Truly terrible. Even if you go in person, be prepared to wait about 40 mins for your food to be ready. Simply terrible.

The food was okay, but the prices are not reflecting the quality of the food. Very pricely. Plus none of the dishes came with a side dish. You have to separately purchase a side. Talking about that, the owner did not specify this and we ended up paying alot for the food. Not coming back again.

Outstanding Service! The staff not only accommodated our catering needs for a 14-Day training event, they provided everything we needed with healthy options, fresh food, and were extremely professional and a delight to be around. Their positive attitudes was motivating to see before beginning our training days and we all looked forward to seeing them every day. We absolutely loved being around them and their food was of the highest quality. Will absolutely recommend them to anyone who is seeking a professional food service. 10 Stars!!
