Loved stopping through this little town and the mercantile made it even more worth it! We enjoyed walking around the shop but the pimento cheese Todd pockets and masses cookies are really what sold us! Make sure to take home a loaf of their rosemary bread too! It made great avocado toast all of the following week.
Honestly, on our way to the cabin I had no idea this was here and the owner waved at me as we drove in and we knew we had to circle back on our way out to see what it was all about. Such a great decision! Thanks for the hospitality!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David C.NC, NC185Jan 28, 2023

Oh man, this place is really cool. I always end up here before I go floating down the river on a tube.
It's a great place to grab a snack. Friendly staff, great cinnamon rolls, donuts, apple fritters and more.
Of course, there are lots of interesting things to buy such as chairs, honey, jam, pictures, art and trolls!
These aren't twitter trolls, folks, these are trolls from the hills of North Carolina.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Robbie G.Bozeman, MT48019Jul 19, 2022
Ok, you must go inside, look around and then buy a piece of cake. We ordered lemon blueberry, coconut cream and fresh strawberry. The best cake you will have eaten. Also purchase the sour dough bread. The started has been continuously made since 1847. And it's good. A gem of a place

I was looking all over Ashe County, Wautaga, etc. for a German Chocolate cake for my husband's birthday. No one I called was willing to make it, not until I found Todd Mercantile. Helen immediately said yes, she would be happy to make it. It was hands down the best cake we've ever had. I will never look for another bakery, this cake was that good. I plan on ordering a different one for my birthday, this place is just excellent!!

Small town Saturday night has nothing on this gem. We made sure to stop by again this year. Homemade cookies, cakes, pies and my new favorite the pimento cheese roll. OMG it was soooo good. Homemade cinnamon rolls and orange rolls were the favorites.Staff is friendly and was so accommodating to our group of 7. we can't wait to go back next year!!

Wonderful spot for a tasty treat. We popped in this afternoon and were greeted warmly by Helen, the owner. We had a slice of her chocolate cake and cinnamon buns. So so good! The shop is quirky with a neat variety of items from puzzles, toys to rustic handcrafts. Loved our time here and we will be back! We found a book in the Little Free Library out front, always a bonus!

Eclectic mix of handicrafts, snacks, t-shirts and baked goods. Sourdough bread is made with a starter begun in 1847. Try the Todd Pockets - savory, filled rolls or the cinnamon buns. Restroom is available. Lovely proprietor. Great place to end the 20-mile (out and back) rail-trail bike ride along the New Fork River.
