Complaining about lack of healthcare nowadays is like preaching to the choir, it's nothing new, and I doubt it's ever going to get better. I was going to Dr. Hunter in practice for about fifteen years and was always pretty happy with him. He retired a year or so ago, and it appeared to me his practice of doctors had merged once or twice into another practice but I honestly have no idea. I just know there were more doctors than at first.
When he retired they assigned me another doctor in the practice. Fine with me. Dr. Hunter always spent a reasonable amount of time with me, had answers to my questions, and gave me a detailed physical.
The new doctor assigned to me, spent all of five minutes with me, listened to my breathing, checked the pulse in my legs, and moved on. When I asked a question about an existing item that Dr Hunter and I had dealt with successfully in the past, and possibly getting back on a script for that, I was told I needed to take a test that I had never had to do in the past. I never took the test since the visit had already left me with a bad feeling.
I set an appt. for next year, did blood work, and left. I got a call a week later saying I needed to get an appt. for six months instead of a year. I'd never had to do this before, but was told because of my high blood pressure, and being overweight, I needed to be "monitored" more closely. When I mentioned my insurance doesn't cover more than one physical visit a year, it wasn't even discussed, just "if you don't come in the doctor won't renew your scripts". When I said "oh, so it's gonna be that way" the rep sheepishly said they were sorry. My health hasn't changed in the last fifteen years since I've been going there.
Time to get another doctor, I've already found one I like, who sat and talked with me for 15-20 minutes on first visit. He also got alarmed when he looked at my last blood work labs. The report said everything was good, but needed to keep a check on my urinalysis and it was in red. New doctor said they dropped the ball on this and I should have gotten another test or been referred to a Urologist because there was protein present. He had me take a urine test before I left, and thankfully it came back negative. But he said "if there had been something wrong, it would have been growing for another five months now". Not comforting to hear. Also, the old doctor office never renewed my scripts from my last visit, and I had to deal with that just recently. The pharmacy told me "they said you needed to come back in to see them first". I wanted to say "good thing I dumped them", but I didn't, and contacted my new doctor.
Anyway, I won't mention the name of the doctor I left. I can just imagine what the corporation that owns that practice requires them to do, and NOT do. This whole review is more of a 'medical care in crisis' statement than anything else. I personally know several doctors, and every one of them is worried about their health care after they retire. It's all pretty much a crap shoot on if you get a doctor who cares, or is allowed to care, nowadays.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sherrie M.Cypress, CA2416863Feb 23, 2024
This review is specifically for Peter Lanasa's office. If any patients want further info about how my father was treated, send me a note here. I'll be glad to tell you everything.
My dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 oral cancer last May. Lanasa admitted it is the most brutal cancer treatment there is, but my dad was NEVER given pain management, which I asked for repeatedly. He finally acquiesced and wrote a script for magic mouthwash weeks later. Not the kind he could swallow, mind you. Just a rinse and spit for his mouth only. His throat was on fire, but Lanasa didn't care. Lanasa NEVER attempted to control the immense pain my dad was in from the radiation until I went off! Then he said he would refer my dad to pain management and then said "I guess we should refer our new patients to pain management when they first come in". You think??? So clearly, he treats all his patients like this! My dad had 2 or 3 weeks of treatment left and the place he referred us to had no appts available until AFTER my dad was finished with his treatments so he got absolutely nothing! I also repeatedly asked for a speech therapist because my dad was aspirating and we were told by Lanasa that wasn't necessary and would not be happening. My dad ended up with pneumonia (to no one's surprise), went septic and almost died thanks to Dr Lanasa. The oncologists office at USMD was permanently closed, so I had to find a new place to take my dad for that part of his care. The new oncologist took one look at at my dad's raw, burnt, red, oozing neck, and said it was the worst he'd seen in all his years of practice! He immediately called the radiation oncologist at his office and she was kind enough to hand us a tube of lidocaine to give my dad some relief. They also prescribed some actual pain meds. All Lanasa seems to care about is his golf trips (which was on at least once a month for a week each time and his $600 shoes, which we heard about on multiple visits. My dad became so weak from the sepsis and pneumonia he fell and broke his hip. If Lanasa had any compassion at all, my dad would still be here. But due to the mistreatment he received, he passed away in early January of this year and I know exactly why! I lived with my dad the last 9 months of his life and I went to every single appt and had to put up with a Dr whose ego is the size of Texas. If you care about your loved ones, avoid him at all costs! I will be leaving reviews on everything I can to hopefully spare someone else from receiving this type of barbaric treatment my dad was forced to endure. It was torture, plain and simple. Stay away from this man at all costs unless you want your loved ones to suffer like my dad did. Now we are grieving the loss of our dad due to this man's uncaring ego.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Vivia W.Fort Worth, TX87Nov 8, 2023
Have this weird rule of come in and sit down and will call to check you in based on severity.
How would you know if you didn't ask or allow anyone to tell you. After she was done filing and typing 15 min later she's ready as I was already walking out the door to another hospitable hospital who truly cares about patience. Whoever works the emergency room front desk should consider working in a call center she doesn't care about pplHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cindy D.SoMa, San Francisco, CA01Mar 28, 2023
Dr Todd may be a savant with a knife but he REALLY DROPPED THE BALL with my wife.
He's failed to provide even basic post spinal surgery pain meds going for more than a day now. My wife is in GREAT pain.
We were referred to him by our pain mgmt doc. He was the only spinal surgeon in Dallas to accept Texas Medicade we were told.
He sent my for a second MRI. We got a call from his hospital to schedule surgery. Still not knowing what's to be done. We were told to get there by 515 because we'd have in to complete.
Dr Todd showed at 720 ish, never introduced himself, and planned on cutting (without our knowing what he had planned). I demanded he tell us and he rolled off some medical speech (witch I sware was meant to put me in my place)
This morning his staff threw him under the bus. They said, and I quote, "she was tired of getting yelled at when she'd done HER JOB".
Meaning that Dr Todd did not do his.
IT'S HIS JOB TO APPROVE AND SUBMIT OPIOID PERSCRIPTIONS
MY WIFE'S PAIN IS ON GOING AND SO IS DR TODD'S FAILURE.
MY ADVICE . . . . RUN
We absolutely would have driven to Austin or Houston if we known this in advanceHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Haytham E.Arlington, TX371Mar 16, 2023

Had to take my husband to the ER. We've lived in this area a while and have been to several different hospitals over the years, and this was by far the absolute best. Quick triage. Saw a doctor promptly. She was very knowledgeable as was her nurse. Everyone was incredibly friendly and took their time with us and made sure our questions were answered. We felt confident in their diagnosis and method of treatment. Won't go to another hospital but this one.

The doctors at this facility are skilled, the rest of the staff tends to shoot them in the foot with apathy. Unfortunate that the patients have to pay for the mismanagement and outsourcing and that the doctors who oversee the staff don't care enough to address these problems. Apparently they are willing to allow it to degrade their facility and practices.
I've been seeing a PCP here for several years and really liked my physician. He decided to leave USMD (no surprise after all the issues) and zero notification was sent out in a timely manner to allow me to talk with him or to get any recommendations from him about potential PCP's in the area. I even called for an appointment and he's no longer taking appointments.
Each time I've called USMD the staff is incapable of helping me. They always require me to contact someone else or they don't have any access to the information requested.
When I inquired about getting my records since my doctor is leaving, I was told it had to be done on the portal which won't allow me access. They claimed I got email to download my records. Never happened...... Asked if they could send it again, not able to do so. Apparently their business model is set up to use the portal as a way to keep the patients at an arms length and avoid actual patient contact. The portal is not well managed, is outsourced and access is sketchy at best. If you can find any other facility in Arlington I would recommend you do so. I can assure you you will be demeaned as a person, frustrated as a patient and only perceived important when it comes to payments.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adam C.Bedford, TX14248Dec 19, 2020
This is not a post about the quality of medical staff at the hospital. But - a post about very poor cleaning standards I encountered in the men's public restrooms on the cancer wing on 12/18/20 at about 920am.
In the middle of COVID-19, there is no way anyone had paid attention to this part of the facility from a health standpoint. No paper towels, discarded PPE, overflowing trash can. See pictures.
Clearly unsanitary, arguably dangerous, and no one had cleaned anything that day.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Edward H.Arlington, TX028Mar 21, 2023
What a hell hole. Run away. The staff is thoroughly awful. Had a prostate scan there and the guy who did bragged that he wasn't a real tech and used to be a janitor, or something.
