Waraku is a Chinese-owned Japanese restaurant, that recently opened up in the Twinbrook shopping plaza. Their menu is extensive, offering soups, salad, various appetizers, handrolls, maki, house specialty rolls, ramen, bento boxes, poke, and lunch specials.
A group of us came here for a later lunch, and we started off with the Fish Tempura (the fish was flake-y, and the tempura batter was light and crisp; it was great with the drizzle of the teriyaki-like sauce on top), and the Sex Jalapeno (spicy jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese, seaweed salad, spicy tuna, and the chef's special sauce; I don't think any of the seeds were taken out, as this was super spicy! It was still tasty, though!). I chose the 'Two Roll Lunch Special,' a spicy tuna and a spicy salmon. Both had a nice rice to filling ratio, with more of the fish rather than the rice.
With our entrees, you receive a bowl of miso soup and a salad with ginger dressing. The miso soup is watered down, and I was not a fan. The salad, however, was fresh and crisp, and I enjoyed the flavorful ginger dressing!
Our server was nice, but there was a slight language barrier. The chef eventually came out to confirm some of our requests, and he was very sweet! We also didn't get our waters refilled often, and you have to request ice if you want your drinks cold.
I'd love to try out their chef's specialty rolls the next time, and maybe try out their Thai options as well. This is definitely one of the better sushi options in the Fairfax area, and I hope they continue to be consistent!

We had Uber eats pickup of a bbq eel poke bowl and steak teriyaki. Great to get a free edamame and plenty of seaweed salad. However, the quality just isn't there especially for close to $50. Dining out after the pandemic has gotten worse so lower your expectations.

I enjoyed my potstickers and pad Thai. My husband could not eat his spicy tuna. Took one bite and said it left a horrible taste in his mouth. He threw it out.

This place has some of the best sushi in town, but takeout and delivery is the worst. They seem to be constantly short-handed, and orders are regularly 30 to 45 minutes later than expected.
It's a nice place to eat in, but don't plan for takeout unless you have an extra half hour to sit around waiting for them to finish your order.

The food was excellent- fresh, delicious, beautiful, and well-portioned. Our favorite part was the "celebration" of different textures within the sushi rolls themselves. Definitely a new favorite date night spot!

I will never come here again. Food was terrible, rice was dried, seaweed salad had tasted like it was getting bad. Didn't have chopsticks, miso soup was even off.
I ordered the most basic and simple things and that wasn't right at all. California roll, seaweed salad and a miso soup. I definitely don't recommend this place at all even for a fast bite. Waste of money and also I see why I was the only customer. Even when I walked in they was confused and I'm confused on why I sat down when I felt the energy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cathy B.Alexandria, VA15Feb 27, 2024
The best!!! On top of fresh, amazing sushi, the owner and staff are so kind, attentive and wonderful. Give this place a try and it will become your go to sushi restaurant!!!

I had an amazing experience at Waraku celebrating my son's 18th birthday back in April. I just had lunch with my daughter for her 13th birthday and the food was delicious.

Overpriced and waited an hour just to get my food. Then I got the wrong order and was told that it wasn't wrong ... even though the food was pork and I don't even eat pork.

They offered to deliver it and included a free delicious California roll, which totally made up for it. Their california dinner special is what always keeps my family coming. Food is also fresh and clean.
