Dr. Portuese is meticulous in his approach to each surgery. I have had Dr. Portuese perform upper blepharoplasty, neck and lower face lift, as well as brow lift with excellent results. I went to another plastic surgeon for a lower blepharoplasty in between my surgeries with Dr. Portuese, and was disappointed with that result. I feel so lucky to have found Dr Portuese. Dr Portuese and his staff made my entire process so smooth and always felt that they had my best interests at heart. I was walked through every step of the way with my zoom call. Every question I had was always answered right away either through email or a phone call. I could not have asked for better results. I am already seeing the immediate results within the first 24 hours. I had the neck/facelift as well as the upper blepharoplasty. Dr Portuese attention to detail is absolutely amazing. This is so unfortunate to have to write this because my heart was set on hiring him for my REVISION RHINOPLASTY surgery. I was ready to write him a check for the deposit and schedule my surgery, but then today happened.

I found Dr. Portuese on Instagram, like many of us probably have. I had 1 brief consultation over the phone last year (due to COVID, he was doing free, quick phone consultations). I was pleased with that experience and booked an in-person consultation in Seattle, which they told me was the next step toward surgery.

I live in San Diego, so I booked in advance and drove up the coast to meet the doctor in person.

That experience went well, and went home to San Diego with my paperwork and started deciding when I wanted to schedule the surgery.

Since having 2 previous nose surgeries, it is very important to me that I take every step possible to make this my last. So naturally, I had questions and wanted clarity of expectations before scheduling the surgery.

I have attached the email exchange between me and his assistant, Janet, so you can see exactly what was said by both parties.

Because I had questions, Janet advised me to schedule a FaceTime appointment with the doctor to go over any remaining questions.

That was today.

My understanding of this appointment was that it was supposed to be us revisiting the expectations I have, confirming we are on the same page, and then scheduling the surgery.

HOWEVER, I had red flag after red flag after red flag.

Red flag #1: I never received a confirmation text of the appointment (Janet told me this would occur)

Red flag #2: I called 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment time to double check I did, in fact, have an appointment. The office assistant dropped major attitude with me, as if to say with her tone of voice, "why the hell are you calling us? we OBVIOUSLY have your appointment scheduled and we're OBVIOUSLY going to call you." When I told her thank you for checking, she hung up on me. No good-bye, no you're welcome. Just a CLICK.

Red flag #3: 15 minutes after my appointment and no phone call. So I call again. They tell me the doctor couldn't get ahold of me. Turns out they have the wrong number on file. Interesting...that could have been verified when I called earlier, but okay...

Red flag #4: One of the first things Dr. Portuese says when we get on the FaceTime call is, "we have to make this quick, because we've already spent HOURS answering your questions." He then went on to tell me that I've sent PAGES of emails and wasted HOURS of his staff's time. Which is why I have attached the emails he's talking about with this review. It's very clearly not that. Dr. Portuese and his staff made up their minds about me that I am a difficult patient who cannot be pleased.

It was a VERY unprofessional experience and it was obvious he did not want my business, even though he didn't use his words to tell me that. I had to decipher that through all of his sweeping generalizations made about me and my character, in attempt to guilt me for having questions about my surgery.

When it comes to something as delicate as elective, cosmetic surgery, you would think a plastic surgeon would understand, especially after years in the business, that bedside manner is what helps patients the most.

This doctor clearly doesn't have it.

If you are someone who knows what they want, knows how to ask for it, and values clear and direct communication, this doctor is NOT for you. He will be offended that you had the audacity to expect some level of autonomy over your own body.

Dr. Portuese botched my rhinoplasty. There clearly was too much taken off the bridge of my nose which collapsed and basically is classified as a saddle nose deformity. He had also dissected my columella which caused it to retract into the nose and look unnatural and unattractive. There was nothing wrong with my columella and it should have been left alone. The 4 grafts that were placed inside my nose were put in incorrectly. My original nose was much better than this and I wish I had never done the procedure. Most likely what happened to my bridge was that I got a blood clot that he caused and would not address afterwards. This completely destroyed my cartilage in my bridge and it had to be rebuilt with my own rib cartilage. I had sent multiple emails with my concerns describing a large bump and swelling and I was dismissed every time. This lump was a blood clot that could have been drained saving my cartilage and I am lucky, I didn't get a horrible infection. Mistakes happen but it was completely unacceptable to pretend that nothing was wrong! How does one blame a collapsed bridge for just a swelling issue! It was clear from the multiple photos and in person visit at 6 months that I had a saddle nose deformity. Instead of providing accurate information I had to figure out what was wrong from other surgeons. Obviously one has to wait a year for a revision but that is not an excuse to withhold information. When a doctor is dishonest, untruthful, providing inaccurate information, and or withholding information from a patient it constitutes lying. Lying is beyond unprofessional, it's malpractice. Dr. Portuese lied and said I have thick skin which causes excess swelling when I do not have thick skin. I had to demand to be seen in person. Even when I showed up for the in person visit he tried to run away because I was 5 minutes late because he knew he messed up. He is the most arrogant person I have ever met, a complete degenerate. The right thing would be to refund the procedure. But if you read all his negative reviews he never admits to wrongdoing or refunds. It was not a complicated case. I now also have a ton of scar tissue inside my nose. Dr. Portuese is a terrible surgeon who will pretend nothing is wrong and try to blame it on swelling. The ppl that do go back for a second time aren't able to fix his mistakes. Thankfully my nose was fixed by Dr. Stefan Shuaib, an amazingly talented surgeon. It took 5 hours to fix the damage to my nose caused by Dr. Portuese. I will be reporting Dr. portuese to the state in the hope of saving others. Time to retire Dr. Portuese!!

I called this Dr's office to request a consultation. The operator had a very rude tone and weird attitude from the beginning and failed to provide any information. When I reached out to them through their Instagram, their attitude was even weirder.

Do not waste your money here. If they have to be rude for no reason, Don't trust them with your procedures.
You will find a lot better places in that city.

Truly the one of, if not the absolute best plastic surgeon you could go to in the country. I flew from the east coast to see Dr. Portuese after years of wanting a rhinoplasty. I was incredibly nervous in general and I cannot stress enough how easy and straight forward this whole process . Dr. Portuese and his entire staff are so incredibly kind and supportive from start to finish. I could not have had a better experience or better results.
I am just over a week post op and I still cry every day when I look in the mirror. Best decision I ever made was choosing this physician. I'm so grateful.

I want to start off my review by saying I know how difficult it is to find a plastic surgeon that is "right" for you. It's a big decision and it's really anxiety inducing, and also you need to be in a really good mental place because if you have any sort of BDD you're going to hate your result no matter if it's good or bad.

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Portuese. I have wanted a rhinoplasty for a decade and saw at least 5 surgeons for consultations before seeing him. I really appreciated how sweet everyone in his office was, how honest he was about which results were achievable for me (big bulbous nose, thick skin, small bump), and he made me feel like I have nothing to worry about. I have only got my wisdom teeth out and was super nervous about going under, but the experience was so comfortable and so fast! I don't even remember going to sleep and I woke up in pain but his staff were so accommodating and compassionate through the entire process. My recovery was also super easy, I barely had any swelling/bruising. I could breath within a WEEK. And my nose is only getting better and better. He's an artist. You might feel like "oh everything is so quick and it feels like I'm just one of many surgeries he's doing". Well you are, and that's not a bad thing. This guy has experience and knows what he's doing. I don't feel like a cosmetic surgeon needs to hold your hand every second. I liked the experience because it didn't freak me out, it was very straight forward, and I got a straight forward result that was honestly better than expected.

I put in my before and afters after 6 weeks, mind you I have thick skin and still have a lot of swelling and my tip is getting more refined every week.

It has been almost one month since I had my rhinoplasty and let me tell you, I could not be any happier!!!!! I had been waiting for this moment since I was in high school (10 years ago). I had to look hard for a photo that would show how my nose used to be because I would NEVER take side profile photos. I had always been self conscious even though people would always tell me they never even noticed I had a big bump. But NOW, I flaunt it every moment I get and I can't atop taking side profile photos!!! The surgery by Dr. Portuese has given me all the confidence I lacked before. I did this for me because even if other people hadn't noticed before, I DID. I have gotten soooo many compliments and it's not even all the way healed yet. I'll leave a couple photos so you can see for yourself! I would 100% trust Dr. Portuese with ur rhinoplasty!
