As being a sushi chef, I always love to eat Japanese food, especially yakitori at this place. The chefs are good at greeting people in and thanking you on the way out. Bad thing is, the place is fairly small and you can't really do large groups. And some times, the service is so so. But overall, food is great, chefs are nice, and the service is okay!

Walked in, employee asked how many, I said one, he asked if I could sit at bar, I said okay. I went to the restroom first and when I came back to sit down, lady tells me to go out rudely. I didn't feel like eating here anymore.

Yakyudori - Andrew Z.San Diego, CA464751Dec 6, 2014Updated review
Still great! I stand by my previous review with no changes. Bon appetit. Yes, it does get crowded around meal time. Be prepared to wait or come early.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 8, 2011Previous reviewSo I ate here for lunch today with some expectations based on past reviews. I think the 4 stars is accurate enough. The ramen here is at least as good as Tajima. Perhaps it's just slightly ahead. I ordered the shio ramen which I found not quite salty enough but the noodles were of excellent quality and everything was served nice an hot. I also ordered the karaage (fried chicken) which came out hot and crispy. The portion size was appropriate for the price. On lark, I also ordered the gyoza to see what they could do. It was admirable but not any better than Chopstix down the street. You could do without it. Note that on a hot day like today business is pretty slow. In January I'm guessing it would be much more crowded for a Friday. Bottom line: I would recommend it without reservations but I still think Santouka is king of hill in this city. I just don't like hunting for seating at Mitsuwa so Yakyudori fits the bill for me.

Purchased the vegi ramen, edamame, spicy miso ramen, the pork rice dish and sake. The ramen was absolutely amazing, edamame was a large portion. The large sake was on the small side and the rice dish was lacking a little flavor. The wait was very long but totally worth it for the ramen, authentic and delicious.
Would be 5 stars but the service was absolutely horrible. The male server was so rude my friend did not even want to eat there, but our group was already meeting there and on the way. Once the line was gone we had to wait a very long time for our check as clearing tables was no longer a concern.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mark C.San Diego, CA782261Apr 20, 2015
I will preface , I am not an expert by any means on noodle soup. I will say the broth was not bad. I was disappointed in the bbq pork that was used. It was clearly a round pork product, sliced and warmed then placed in the soup. Great service , just wished rhey didn't go cheap with the main ingredient.

I went today for lunch. Since they dont have yakitori until 5:30, so i just ordered ramen. Service was mediocre, but my server was pretty chill. I ordered a nagoya ramen, and it was WAY too salty. They must've put 5 pounds of salt in that broth, lol. But seriously, it was so salty that i chugged 2 bottle waters after i left. Unpleasant!!

This place is, without a doubt, my favorite ramen place in San Diego. The food, atmosphere, everything is authentic and I always leave feeling satisfied.
During my most recent visit, I had the miso ramen, different kinds of yakitori (smelt, tsukune, harami, seared tuna), takoyaki, and agedashi tofu. Everything was delicious. The tsukune and harami were both so soft and flavorful and I always look forward to the little soy sauce flavored egg in the ramen.
It's a small place and it does get crowded so try to make a reservation when you go for dinner on the weekend. They only hold your table for 5-10 minutes, but it's totally worth it when you get to skip the line.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Duo Y.San Diego, CA25422Jun 7, 2017
It's a quite small place but with really decent food. I always like Japanese food cuz it can make you full but not super full lol. I guess you have to wait if it is the lunch time. But overall a really good restaurant.

Yes,
This place definitely has one of the better noodles down here is SD. The texture is much better than Mitsuwa or Tajima or Chopstix. Can't compare as they are pretty authentic.
My Wife likes to go a lot here, and they're pretty children friendly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Anthony N.San Diego, CA219314Aug 9, 2011
I ordered the spicy ramen and the bacon wrapped asparagus, delicious of course.
It can get a bit pricey if you're going to be drinking.
Service is lacking a bit, they have a tendency to miss orders and not check up on you.
Other than that solid 4 from me.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
