The lowdown

Named after the owner’s grandmother and an old baseball bat (or “billy club”) found during construction, Pearl’s Social and Billy Club feels like Cheers for the Bushwick set. Perhaps the hospitality found at Pearl’s is only fitting — its namesake ran a shelter for traveling hobos during the Depression. As you enter the joint, one has the impression you’ve left the industrial Brooklyn neighborhood in which the bar resides and walked into a pub straight out of the Adirondacks. Old-timey New York pennants, wood accents, warm lighting (complete with votive candles tucked into nooks and crannies), and shelves full of curios add to the cozy vibe. The retro feel extends to the libations, which are served in mason jars — of course — and mixed by amicable bartenders who are happy to whip up whatever concoction you crave.
